**Bold items will be discussed and highlighted during the discussion of frequency that how we should clean and process.

*Child’s running nose-

  1. All crèches will ensure that clean cotton katran are kept in a box for cleaning children's running noses.
  2. These scraps (katran) will be in small pieces, suitable for single use. Whenever a child's nose needs cleaning, caregivers will use a fresh cotton katran and place the used katran in a separate box. After cleaning the child's nose, caregivers will wash or sanitize their hands.
  3. All the used katran will be disposed of on the same day in the evening.

*Bibs-

  1. Each child in the crèche should have at least two bibs available.
  2. The bibs should be fastened in such a way that they cover the child's chest and knees.
  3. If the bib is made of cotton, it should be washed with detergent after every meal and dried in the sun.
  4. If one side of the bib is coated with plastic, it should be wiped clean with a clean cloth and dried in the sun.

Dispose leftover food

  1. If there is any leftover food at the crèche, it is essential that it is disposed of properly.
  2. There should be a proper pit located 100-200 meters away from the center.
  3. If leftover food is thrown near the crèche, cows, hens, goats, dogs, etc., will loiter around the premises.
  4. It would be best to put the leftover food in that pit before the crèche closes.

Dispose of vegetables waste, eggs shells and dry waste

  • We will use separate dustbins to keep waste of vegetables, peels and eggs shells.
  • Dispose of eggshells and vegetable peels on a daily basis.
  • We will put them in a pit some distance away from the center and cover them with soil.
  • For dry waste, we need a fixed place where the waste can be managed. If a specific location near a center is already fixed, we can dispose of it there.
  • If there is no fixed location then we can fixed a place for dump and ensure that no living beings or the environment are harmed.

Disposal of faecal matter waste: Toilets needs to ensure that the faecal matter must be disposed of into the toilet/into

  1. Potty must be cleaned thoroughly and should be stored separately from food, utensils, and play materials.
  2. Cleaning of soiled clothes must be carried out only in the designated defecation area/platform. They must not be washed in kitchens, food preparation areas, or near water sources.
  3. Remove solid faecal matter from the clothes by shaking or scraping it directly into the faecal matter disposal pit or toilet.
  4. Rinse the soiled portion of the clothing using water only in the designated washing area. Do not rinse clothes in open areas.

*Toys & Handwashing-It is included and covered in Hygiene & Cleanliness-II sessions.

Toilet Usage & Cleaning- Video of any creche Where toilet facilities are available, all children should be encouraged to use and practice using the toilet room. Since the crèche has children aged 7 months to 3 years, it's natural that some children might toilet on the crèche premises or in the playing area. In such cases, we should properly dispose of the faecal matter in the toilet or in a designated pit outside. If disposed of in a pit, it must be covered with soil.

  • The frequency will be decided joint discussion through a checklist activity. (a suggestive frequency is attached in Annexure)
  • If possible, will show hygiene related video of our running creches.

  3. As per below listed activities, facilitator will initiate the games and encourage all the participants.

*Make sure the comfort of caregivers by asking if anyone is not comfortable can skip.

  • Physical activities- - it will include demo of physical activities like- walking on straight line, zig-zag line, jumping, picking ball, passing ball, holding ball, throwing ball on a bucket, squeezing of rubber toys.
  1. The facilitator will ask some of the caregivers to join in these activities and then for each activity give chance to join each one of them. Facilitator should emphasize that these activities should be conducted in outdoor premises of creche like courtyard, if possible.
  2. After the physical activities, ask caregivers to now sit in a circle/ as per the space.
  • Rhymes and Stories - A Demonstration will be done by facilitator on rhymes, stories, then caregivers will demonstrate.

*We can take any other rhyme/story as well but that should be short.

  • Play materials- Demonstration of each play material and its multiple uses. We have multiple toys. Now we will show how to use these toys with small children (less than a year) and above. We can show a demo with one group of Caregivers (they will act as children under 1 year) by giving vegetables-fruits toys(rattles) to them, can use rattles, squeezy balls for attention of children and the rest of them will get other toys like blocks, making towers etc.
  1. While showing the play materials, facilitator should talk about each toy and its safe usage like- as per age, as per space. Facilitator should also emphasise that play with children or with toys makes a child engaged and happy and we should encourage each child.
