Session- 1 Recap

Objectives

  • Caregivers will be able to think and recapitulate & align the previous learnings.
  • Caregivers will learn to work with peers.

Duration – 30 mins

Materials required:

  • Small paper chits. (Health/Hygiene/safety/etc. to be written on it)
  • Pens/pencils/ markers /chartpapers

Steps for Facilitation

  • Baalgeet (any as per the facilitator’s choice)
  • The caregivers will be asked to say/write any 2 take aways from the previous day (based on the chits that they have received, for example- A caregiver group gets a chit on child care, then she is expected to write what she can recapitulate for that point) and the chits would have the given below topics:-
  • Child care
  • Sleeping protocol
  • Breast feeding
  • Hygiene
  • First Aid
  • Playing

Note:- Keep the time (30 mins) into consideration and can opt even to have caregivers speak about it rather conducting it in written form.

  • This will be done in groups (group size as per the number of participants).
  • The caregivers would then recite/elaborate what they have said/written to others.
  • This would be reframed and explained by the facilitator in brief as and when required

Session- 2 Creche Daily Routine

Objectives:

  • Caregivers will understand the routine of creche and associated processes.
  • Caregivers shall demonstrate the learnings and practices which they learnt through the training.
  • They will be able to live the way they are expected to lead the centers.
  • They would be able to collate what they have been learning for the last four days.

Duration: 90 mins

Materials required:

  • Space at the venue (15x15 feet) approx. would be needed.
  • A creche set-up with all the items.
  • Seven/eight caregivers for performing. Along with the team members.
  • Video
  • Projector
  • Whiteboard and marker

Steps for Facilitation (Role Play)

The facilitator is expected to keep the below mentioned points into consideration while conducting the role play:-

  • Decide the creche timing based on the needs of the community through a short CMC (Creche Management Committee) discussion. (Approx. 5 minutes)
  • Two caregivers open the creche and complete all preparations before children arrive. (A detailed list of tasks for 8:30–9:00 AM will be provided.)
  • Highlight the importance of opening windows and doors to ensure fresh air and good ventilation—demonstrated by one caregiver.
  • Show readiness for the day’s routine by keeping all materials and spaces prepared for meals, play, and nap time.
  • Demonstrate treating every child equally showing love, care, and attention to all children throughout the day.
  • Showcase positive appreciation for children’s actions such as eating their meals, asking for more food, sitting properly, washing hands, playing nicely, bringing toys, coming to the creche, or approaching the caregiver.
  • Ensure no child is left unattended at any time during the day.
  • Keep talking and engaging with children to build trust and support their language development.
  • Demonstrate proper care and maintenance of anthropometric equipment and show how caregivers can assist supervisors during calibration and measurement.
  • Discuss the process of home visits for children who have been absent from the crèche for more than three consecutive days.

Note:- The mistakes if any occurred during the exhibition of activities would be explained by the facilitator in a way that the correct thing is displayed.

  • Encourage on-the-spot reflection — the facilitator should observe, discuss, and demonstrate the correct way of performing each action during the session.

Session- 3 Understanding and Maintaining Creche Records

Objectives

  • Caregivers will develop a clear understanding of the rationale, procedures, and requirements for maintaining each register correctly.
  • Caregivers will gain first-hand, practical knowledge of record-keeping.
  • The session will prepare caregivers for on-site handholding and support once they begin work at the creche.
  • A clear demarcation and preparedness for them would help them imagine what they are expected to do and how.

Note:-

  1. The facilitator can decide if he/she thinks correct to have most of the people involved into the role play process/wants to conduct it with a limited number of members.
  2. The role play group (as decided by the facilitator) would guide the group one day prior to this day by discussing the indicative creche routine (attached in the concept note).
  3. The facilitator will have a person with a clock to move the time as per the day.
  4. The facilitator is expected to keep announcing the time along with the processes to be carried out in that duration while the members involved in the play are expected to perform as per the announcements.

The example below may clarify the process:-

  • Facilitator-”Its 8.30 AM now, and the center opens”.
  • Performers – will open the lock of the center.
  • Facilitator -”The opened lock is kept at a safe place where it remains away from children”.
  • Performers – is expected to keep the lock at a safe place.
  • Facilitator - “Now one caregiver is cleaning (brooming & moping) each corner of the center while the other is fetching water for the day’s need".
  • Performers – are imitating the same as announced by the facilitators.

Overall, this is expected to be a process to be carried out by the caregivers under the guidance of an experienced facilitator, who has the knowledge of each process to be conducted and the manner it is expected to be happening at the center.

Duration – 60 mins

Materials Required:

  • Attendance Register (one per group)
  • Child Card (one per group)
  • Stock Register (sample format per group)
  • Visitors’ Register (one per group)
  • Projector and video
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Food Menu (printed copy for each participant)
  • Creche Routine (printed copy for each participant)
  • Sample Registers (Attendance, Stock, Visitor’s, Egg Count) Format to be drawn in the registers as indications.

Practices covered in this session
Records the attendance of children and self-every day in the attendance register.
Records total attendance and meal count (entry after every meal) daily and monthly for every child in the register.
Writes remarks for children absent for more than 2 consecutive days on the register.
Keep all the registers, including child card properly at a place easy to access and protects from getting damaged.
Maintains cashbook entries regularly in the register.
Communicates the requirement of eggs and other materials at least two days in advance to the supervisors.
Maintains a register to enter the egg spoilage & usage on daily basis.

Steps for Facilitation

  1. Project the Food Menu and discuss the same with all the caregivers also provide the hard copies of the same (one for each center).

Discussion Pointers

  • Display and discuss hard copies of key registers: Attendance Register, Child Card, Stock Register, and Visitor’s Register.
  • Group Activity: Caregivers will be divided into small groups (two caregivers per group) and given one set of registers each for hands-on learning.
  • Explain the first/info page of each register by projecting it and walking participants through the details.
  • Demonstrate:
  1. What is to be filled by them in the attendance register.
  2. Where to record anthropometric measurements (supervisor would do it)
  3. How to write remarks for absent children.
  4. How to mark Sundays and holidays.
  5. How to record daily meal counts.

  1. Project the full-day Creche Schedule and share printed copies. Discuss the link between schedule, attendance, and meal recording.
  2. Project sample pages of all registers. Child card entry is not to be done by them rather would be done by the supervisors and they just are expected to upkeep the same.
  3. Demonstrate correct entries by the help of either displaying the same on the screen/having a filled hard copy.
  4. Discuss emergency communication protocols—whom to contact, how to coordinate, and what immediate steps to follow.

Session- 4 Consolidation

Objective: The recap session helps caregivers visualize the immediate next steps after completing the five-day training. It reinforces learning, strengthens confidence, and prepares them to begin their work at the creche.

Note:-

  1. The caregivers through the above discussions are just to be given a sense of what would be the records they are ought to keep and also their importance.
  2. It would not be feasible for them to learn each of the processes within so short just one explanation.
  3. Supervisors and other cadres would be supporting them in the processes ahead would be conveyed to all caregivers.

Responsibilities of the Caregiver

The caregiver plays a central role in ensuring data accuracy and upkeep.

  • She should update all registers daily, without waiting for supervision visits.
  • She must verify every entry before signing.
  • She should store registers safely in a spot that is easy to access yet protected from water, dust, and children’s reach.
  • She should communicate supply needs (like eggs or rations) two days in advance to the supervisor to avoid shortages.
  • During supervisor visits, the caregiver must present updated registers for review.

Facilitation Steps

  1. The facilitator begins by recapping key learnings from the past five days, highlighting important themes and practices covered during the training.
  2. Discuss the way forward, including what caregivers are expected to do next at their respective creches.
  3. Offer words of encouragement and good wishes to the caregivers as they start implementing what they have learned.
  4. Provide space for questions, reflections, or concerns, and respond to any clarifications caregivers may need.
