Boiling of water

1. Need for boiling water in creches

  1. Children have low immunity and therefore are more vulnerable to infections.
  2. Unboiled water may contain germs, parasites, viruses or chemicals that cause- Diarrhoea, typhoid, cholera and worm infestations.
  3. Boiling water to 100 degrees centigrade destroys most bacteria, viruses and parasites.
  4. It is the simplest and most effective method for making water safe to drink.

2. Correct method for boiling water

  1. Use clean, covered vessels (preferably stainless steel).
  2. Fill with clean water collected from a known water source.
  3. Bring water to a rolling boil, large bubbles rise and break continuously.
  4. Boil at least for 10-15 minutes to kill all the germs.
  5. Remove from heat and cool in the same container, covered.
  6. Decant the boiled water in a gravity-based water filter.
  7. Wash your hands with soap before handling water for boiling.
